Tambaram City Municipal Corporation (TCMC) has prepared Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Tambaram City Piped Water Supply Project in Tamil Nadu. It aims to provide piped drinking water to Perungalathur, Peerkankaranai, Thiruneermalai, Chitlapakkam, Madambakkam and Sembakkam. 

The scope of work includes laying new transmission and distribution pipelines, construction of overhead water tanks, development of three pumping stations of 5 mld each, provision of household water connections, installation of bulk and consumer water meters, pressure management systems and a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for real-time monitoring. The project also includes provisions for future population growth, routine maintenance, emergency repairs and replacement of ageing water infrastructure. The total cost of the project is expected to be Rs 5,000 million. 

The 400 mld Perur desalination plant will serve as the primary water source for the project and strengthen long-term water security in the corporation area.
