Resident groups and welfare associations have suggested ways for saving water to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). Some of these include banning the use of drinking water and using treated wastewater for washing their two-wheelers and four-wheelers vehicles. According to BWSSB, at least 50 litres of water is used in washing a car at households and around 180-200 litres at a service centre. A majority of car owners use the water from Cauvery river or groundwater for washing their vehicles at present.
