Around 82 per cent physical progress has been achieved on the Aurangabad Parallel Water Supply Scheme in Maharashtra. However, only 15 per cent of the project is operational due to multiple technical and construction related issues. Currently, permanent repairs to stop leakages, hydraulic pressure testing of distribution pipeline network and pure water gravity channel, 49 overhead water tanks etc are yet to be done.
The project was announced in September 2019 and is being implemented by GVPR Engineers Limited.
The project involves lifting of water from Jayakwadi Dam through a siphon system and transporting it to the jackwell, using two large pumps of 3,700 horsepower capacity installed on the jackwell to pump water through the pipeline to the water treatment plant at Nakshatrawadi. The scheme also includes hydraulic testing of a 1,500 mm diameter main pipeline for supply of water from Nakshatrawadi to Harsul and Jatwada areas. Two large reservoirs built in the hilly area have also been filled with water under the scheme.
