The Government of Delhi has approved funds worth Rs 2,200 million for implementation of Kirari Drainage Redevelopment Project.

Bids for the same are likely to be invited soon.

The drain will be constructed on land owned by Northern Railway, which has already granted permission for the work. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Northern Railway with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Department and other stakeholders, including Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and Public Works Department, Delhi (PWD).

It involves construction of the 4.5 km long drain along the railway line from Mundka Halt station to Najafgarh, and a supplementary drain along the Delhi-Bhatinda railway line. The drain will improve drainage in other areas including Nangloi Jaat, Bawana, and Mundka assembly constituencies. The project is expected to be implemented in two phases under the Drainage Master Plan 2025.

The work is likely to be completed by 2027.
