The City Industrial and Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited (CIDCO) has initiated a water augmentation plan for Raigad district, Maharashtra. The augmentation of the Hetawane Water Supply Scheme is likely to be completed by June 2029. Moreover, the total water demand for CIDCO and Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Areas is estimated to reach 1,275 million litres per day (mld) by 2050. To meet this high demand, CIDCO has created a detailed plan for utilising existing sources such as those under Hetawane, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.
CIDCO is also developing new sources, such as the Balganga Dam and Kondhane Dam. The Kondhane Dam Project will initially supply 250 mld of water, which can be further increased to 350 mld, and will be a vital water source for rapidly developing areas. Given the approximate five year timeline for these projects and to meet the immediate water demand, CIDCO is seeking to tap additional water from existing sources like Hetawane Dam and MJP’s Nhava-Sheva Stage-III Water Supply Scheme.
