The government of Maharashtra will start the Surya Regional Water Supply Scheme from May 2023 for the provision of an additional 185 MLD water to the Vasai-Virar area. Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation will be able to utilise the water generated from the scheme, while Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation will be able to use the water from it by the end of 2023. According to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), work on the pump house in Kawadas and a water treatment plant in Suryanagar Colony is also underway under the scheme. MMRDA is also about to complete the laying of the 90-km water pipeline from Surya Dam.
