The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) 24×7 water plan is facing delays with construction progressing at a slow pace due to litigation and contractor delays. PMC decided to carry out this project in 2018 with a plan that included relocating the old water pipes across a distance of nearly 1,600 km and constructing over 100 new water tanks to provide equitable water delivery to all households. However, the consultant, who was hired for an Rs 180 million consulting fee, quit in September 2021 due to a lack of work. Owing to a contract agreement, the consultant had the option of abandoning the project due to force majeure. Later, the civic body asked two firms previously contracted to complete the project, Larsen & Toubro and Jain Irrigation, to resume with the work. The project includes constructing 103 water tanks in various parts of the city. PMC was raising funds through municipal bonds to implement the project that includes supply, installation, commissioning and operation of the 24×7 water supply system mainly to reduce water loss and ensure equitable water supply to the city
