Jal Shakti Department, under the aegis of Jal Jeevan Mission, has established 97 water testing facilities in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure quality water supply. Water quality testing equipment would be used to determine the cleanliness of drinking water at the source, within a piped distribution system, and at the supply’s end. The supplier/agency in charge of water quality will monitor drinking water quality, while GPs/rural communities will be responsible for water quality monitoring at the grassroots.
Jal Shakti Department has set out on a mission to identify and train five people from the local community, primarily women, to conduct water quality tests using bacteriological vials at the village level, schools, and Anganwadi centres. These people include ASHA workers, health workers, Pani Samiti members, teachers, SHG members, and others.
